Huntly Placemakers Speedway backs Christchurch earthquake families

Four Christchurch families affected by February’s earthquake will be guests of the Waikato Stock & Saloon Car Club at Huntly Placemakers Speedway during Waikato’s biggest motorsport weekend next month.

The Waikato Stock and Saloon Car Club said they wanted to help in a positive way.

“We wanted to help fellow speedway fans in Christchurch and do something special for them,” said club President Red Wootton.

“We felt that they might like to get a break away from Christchurch and enjoy their passion of speedway.”

The club will bring four families from Christchurch to the club’s annual Speedfest meeting at Huntly Placemakers Speedway on Thursday 14 April, the day before the start of the ITM 400 V8 Supercars event in nearby Hamilton.

The club’s radio partners, The Radio Network will run a competition through their Christchurch-based Classic Hits station with the four lucky families flown to Auckland, provided with vehicles, accommodation and VIP hospitality at the club’s Speedfest meeting. The club is also planning to provide passes for some of the region’s tourist activities for the families.

“We have received a generous donation from Fleet Partners, one of New Zealand’s leading vehicle leasing & mobility solution providers, who have provided the four families with vehicles and met their accommodation costs and Steve Williams has helped with the air fares,” Mr Wootton said.

“This is one of our club’s biggest meetings of the year and we will also be making a donation from the meeting to the earthquake appeal.”

The annual invitation meeting includes the national champions of all the key classes racing including Sprintcars, Super Saloons, Superstocks, Stockcars, Midgets and Mini-Sprints.
