A RAY OF ‘SUNSHINE’ AT VODAFONE SPEEDWAY – WESTERN SPRINGS
Tyler Courtney is the last to join ‘Team USA’ when he heads down to Vodafone Speedway Western Springs to race in the United Truck Parts International Series starting on Boxing Day.
Rising US racing star Tyler Courtney, affectionately known as “Sunshine” is now confirmed as one of the seven stars to race here at Western Springs. He will make his first appearance on Boxing Day having secured a drive in the #4USA Aggressor Esslinger leased courtesy of The Tony Elliott Foundation.
This season Sunshine has recorded 5 USAC National Sprint Car wins, 1 Silver Crown win and 3 x USAC National Midget victories heading into the season-ending races. Tyler is a genuine all-rounder having raced Sprint Cars, Silver Crown and Midget Cars. His season with the Clauson-Marshall Race Team has been very successful including winning a Preliminary Night at the 2017 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. (see photo).
“I’m very excited to head down under to compete at the Iconic Western Springs racetrack”, said Tyler “both Bryan and I spoke about this track a lot, and it will be great to finally race there”, he said.
For those that don’t know, Tyler was given his nickname ‘Sunshine’ by Bryan Clauson back in 2010 when Tyler came to work at their race shop. Bryan thought Tyler looked like the character in the movie ‘Remember the Titans’ whose name was Sunshine. Bryan even stuck the name on his sun-visor when he first raced for Team Clausen in a Midget.
BROWN DOG JNR HEADS TO WESTERN SPRINGS
Kaidon Brown is the first of the three Australian Midget Car drivers we want to introduce you to. Kaedon races at Parramatta Speedway and is certainly following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, in that he is one to watch and has already delivered a range of great results.
Kaidon is a fourth generation Midget Car driver racing having raced for the past two years. He competed in 21 events in Australia last year finishing in the top 3 on seven different occasions. Voted as ‘Rookie of the Year’ he certainly has impressed all those around him.
“To take Kaidon to Western Springs is a dream come true”, said Mark Brown – Dad, “this first year will be tough over there, however, this will be the first of many times for us, because if you can win at Western Springs, you can win anywhere in the world”, he said.
Kaidon has been nominated as one of the 3 Australian drivers to represent Australia in the Teams racing. This will take place on Boxing Day where three of the best from each country go head to head.
Kaidon will be driving his own Aggressor GRD – Hawk, #97 AU which will be loaded in Sydney early December to be here in time for the United Truck Parts International Midget Series starting on Boxing Day at Vodafone Speedway.
Kingshott to lead ‘Team Australia’
The discussions began with Dayne and Team McAllan Motorsport at the Australian Midget Title at Archerfield – Brisbane in January this year. The plan was to raise the profile of ‘Team Australia’ here at Vodafone Speedway Western Springs starting with a new group of drivers.
Dayne is a seasoned campaigner running out of Perth for the past fourteen years. He has competed for the past eight years in a Midget at the highest level including racing in the 2016 POWRI Midget Week, 2016 USAC Midget Week along with a number of top results at the Magic Man 34 Midget Feature at the Perth Motorplex venue. His overall results include twice winner of the Speed Car Pro Series, triple time winner of the Western Australian Midget Championships and an impressive list of additional wins around Australia.
“I appreciate the support I have from my team owner Keith McAllan” said Dayne, “we are both looking forward to racing at this venue in New Zealand, we both know how tough it is going to be however I think that this young Australian team is up to the task” he said.
The McAllan Motorsport’s #21AU Mac Chassis KRE powered Midget is being shipped out of Sydney to arrive here ready to go on the 26th December, to compete in the United Truck Parts International Midget Series.
