As we all know the new speedway season is fast approaching with a start in November. As you would have noticed on the new race calendar that it`s going to be full on with lots of BIG and exciting meetings. It has been a mission to put the calendar together for this season, but it has a good balance that covers all the classes that race at Huntly PlaceMakers Speedway throughout the racing season.
Huntly PlaceMakers Speedway starts off on Saturday night the 4th of November with its annual Fireworks Spectacular show and opening meeting. Huntly has now grown the fireworks show to be the best and biggest show in speedway. As this has shown crowd numbers have grown to a full venue of families at Huntly PlaceMakers Speedway for this great night. Added to this show will 6 classes racing on the night which include Superstocks, Stockcars, Modifieds, Saloons, Minisprints and Ministocks. Gates will open on this night at 3pm to give every person a chance to get into the venue.
After the Fireworks show 2 weeks later we will then move into the Stockcar Teams Invitation Friday and Saturday night shows. Plus added to the teams will be the Waikato Sprintcar champs to be confirmed. Number of teams entered is still in the planning stages and rest assured this will be one hell ova weekend with Auckland Alleycats the defending 2016 winners.
December will be a busy month with 3 meetings of top calibre events, drivers and cars. Events on will be the Waikato Super Stock and Waikato Modified championships. Midget 40 lap Spectacular, North Island Super Saloon Championship and to finish of the month on the 30th December is the Valvoline Saloon Speedweek plus at the nights end an awesome Fireworks show.
Two days later on New Year’s Day the Monday 1st January 2018. Yes that`s right the International Midget series is back at Huntly PlaceMakers Speedway It has been 2 years since this event was in Huntly. This will be the best open wheel midget drivers in the world at our track in Huntly. Lots of American and Australian drivers competing up against the best drivers in New Zealand. As we get closer to this meeting we will be able to start putting some top names to the event. This event will show case Huntly to the above countries.
Now to the end of January the Auckland anniversary weekend Huntly PlaceMakers Speedway will be hosting the New Zealand Midget Championship title. This event will be on the Saturday and Sunday nights. This event will again show case the best midget drivers from throughout New Zealand. Michael Pickens is the current New Zealand midget champion and has 7 New Zealand titles to his name. If Pickens was to get his eight titles at Huntly this would make him the most capped New Zealand midget champion title holder. If you were to think of in the past back in 1997 Roger Bertram won his 10th and outright holder of the New Zealand Modified title at Huntly. Added to this big weekend are the Waikato Minisprint Champs on the Saturday night and on the Sunday night the BK Pro Dirt Super Saloon series still to be confirmed for the Sunday.
February starts off with a bang with the second weekend in February the 2 night show for the North Island Stockcar Championship title. Expect lots of Stockcars for this speedway title for all the qualifying heats and the finals night. Added to the Saturday night’s show will be the Waikato Saloon Champs and for a first time at Huntly the Modified 30 lap Silver Cup. Modifieds will be coming from everywhere to show case this event plus the other events this will be one awesome weekend. Part of the month of February will be the Waikato Production Saloon.
March again is another busy month with again the second weekend is the 2 nighter for the North Island Saloon Championship title. Car numbers again will be big as the Saloons will also come from throughout the North Island as lots of tracks run the Saloon class. Added to the Saturday night show will be the Waikato Stockcar Champs plus the added bonus to keep the Stock car title in the Waikato. Added to this triple header night will be the now established Oval Super Stars Tour for Minisprints round at Huntly as this event is still to be confirmed. A week later will be the Waikato Super Saloon and Waikato Midgets Championship rounds.
April starts off after the Easter break with the Future of Speedway event for Ministock drivers. Again the Ministock drivers come from throughout the North Island and these drivers love to travel. The event has now grown to around 100 drivers for this event.
Then we go to the next weekend on the calendar and the final speedway event at Huntly for the season it`s time for Speedfest 2018. Six premiere classes on the night. Each class is full of top drivers to show case their stuff to the crowd. After this night it`s take a break till the next season rolls around in November.
Things to look out for on the website will be leading up to the season starting will be: Gates open and racing start times per event. Gate prices to the events, classes racing on the night which is part of the calendar (still to come) plus drivers racing on these nights.
