On Saturday the 29th of April the top open wheel classes of Midgets and Sprintcars will have their chances to shine on the new oval at Huntly and Te Rapa PlaceMakers Speedway. These two classes are fast and defiantly entertaining with their sheer speed around the oval dirt surface. If the track is right it is also a chance for more lap records to go with the midgets trying to go under 13.6 seconds held by Brad Mosen. The fastest cars in Speedway the Sprintcars trying to better the Sprintcar lap record of 12.23 seconds for a flying lap. This record is held by American driver Ricky Logan. Lots of other classes have broken the lap record in their classes over the last two meetings and most recently was on Saturday night at the Future of Speedway Ministocks meeting with the old lap record broken 4 times on the night. The new lap record for Ministocks is now held by 99S William Hughes from Stratford with a time of 18.17 second for the lap. Local Huntly driver 21H Luke Fenton was next best with 18.18 seconds.
The three shows at this meeting will be the Ryco 24.7 North Island Midget championship plus the Seatbelt Solutions and Washworld Waikato Sprintcar Championship plus added to this night will be the Hamilton Collision Repairs Waikato Ministocks. The three previous attempts to hold the North Island Midget title have been rained out.
The midget field will be headed by current 2NZ Brad Mosen, Michael Brunt, Peter Hunnibell current Speedfest 2017 champion. Plus on double driving duties on the night driving a Sprintcar and Midget in their respective championship`s is Daniel Thomas from Hamilton and there are many more talented drivers.
The Sprin cars racing is loaded with talented drivers and just to mention a few entered is Skinny Colson, Greg Pickerill, Stephen Taylor, Ossie Sokal, Daniel Thomas and Modified drivers Brad Lane and Paul Hodgson giving it a crack in the Sprint cars.
The other part of the triple header is the Hamilton Collision Repair Waikato Minstocks for all the local Huntly registered Ministocks. As the Mini stocks have just recently raced at the Future of Speedway for Ministocks event they will defiantly be dialled in on the new surface.
To finish the season off will be a big FIREWORKS display to say thanks to all the drivers, crews, sponsors, volunteers and spectators that have supported Huntly PlaceMaker Speedway throughout the 2016/2017 season.
